Recovery after Plastic surgery: Following instructions
Contents
Should I follow recovery instructions?
Did you just schedule an appointment to undergo cosmetic surgery? Whether you’re getting lipo 360 or a breast augmentation, recovery is vital! Your doctor should give you detailed instructions for you to follow in the months post-op. But, do you know just how important it is to follow these directions?
Simply knowing that it is important to follow all postoperative instructions isn’t enough for some people and it can lead to some serious consequences. Many like to think to themselves, “What is the worst that can happen?” To be frank, if you knew, you’d follow all the instructions to a T. All T’s crossed and all i’s dotted.
Why is it important to follow recovery recommendations?
Any Korean plastic surgery procedure comes with risks, some of those risks come with the care after your procedure. One of the most concerning is complications. If you undergo a surgery that involves ‘going under the knife’, you’ll be exposed to risks that include infections. It’s one of many reasons to be sure to follow your post-care instructions for cleaning the letter. Not only can improper care lead to painful infections, it can also lead to delays in healing and, in some cases, death.
Another high-ranking reason to follow your doctor’s post-surgery instructions is your results! Yes! Not following the instructions of your doctor can lead to diminished results. Take liposuction for example, you’re having excess fat removed from your body. In order to maintain your new lean look, you’ll need to start eating clean and exercising or you could gain your weight back in the matter of months. In other procedures, you may be instructed to wear a recovery garment to help with loose skin or prevent swelling.
Your doctor should provide you with all the details you need to follow after your surgery, but it’s important to ask any and all prior. In fact, you can make a list to bring with you to the consultation appointment and compare your answers from different doctors to get a really full list of any possible needs you may have. What you need will be determined by your needs and the procedures you are having done.
Here are a few questions you could ask to get started
- How long is recovery back to my daily routine (aka working out)?
- What am I looking at timewise, until full recovery?
- How long until the swelling goes down?
- What can I use to help with swelling?
- How much time will I need to take off of work?
- Are there any special garments I will need to wear (like a Faja or compression shorts)?
- How often do I need to clean my incisions and change my bandages? How?
- What should I do should I start feeling ____ (nauseous, extreme pain, dizzy, etc.)?
- What medications can I take to help with pain?
- When can I start taking my supplements and medications again?
These are just a few questions to get you started on thinking about items that might come up after your procedure. As you can see there is a lot to consider and prepare long before you undergo your procedure. Be sure you don’t have any lingering concerns, questions, or doubts before going into your surgery. Communication is key!
